Here at Reid Temple AME Church, we have several ministries that you and your family can join in order to lighten the load. It has been said that “Many hands make for light work” and we believe that to be true even in God’s house. It is not only our duty to serve, but be the example that Jesus left us when He stated in the Gospel of Mark chapter 10, verse 45 that “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve…”

Board of Stewards
Selected by the Pastor, the members of the Board of Stewards are the spiritual lay leaders of the church. In that important spiritual leadership role, they attend to, and are held accountable for, the church’s overall spiritual and financial health and renewal. As the Pastor’s “cabinet,” the Stewards assist him in promoting and following his God-given vision for Reid Temple’s growth and progress. They oversee the activities of the church’s numerous ministries, commissions, clubs, committees, and other organizations, and organize revival and evangelistic programs to ensure that the church remains spiritually healthy.

Boy Scouts
The Boy Scouts ministry at Reid Temple serves young boys and teenaged males between the ages of 11 and 18 years old. Troop 450 is an active program that engages young men and their families in activities that reinforce Christian beliefs and the principles of the A.M.E. Church.

Cancer Support Group
The members of Reid Temple’s Cancer Support Group Ministry provide Christian comfort and compassionate spiritual support to persons whose lives have been touched by cancer. They organize and coordinate cancer prevention workshops and awareness events, maintain a cancer information clearinghouse, and work with national and local health organizations to develop useful resource tools for cancer patients, survivors, caregivers, family members, and friends.

Celebration of Life Council
The purpose of the Celebration of Life Council (CLC) Ministry is to provide Spirit-led fellowship and opportunities to serve in ministry for members of Reid Temple. Throughout the year, CLC Ministry plans and hosts birthday celebrations honoring the members of Reid Temple. Birthday Celebrations are held three to four times per year and provide an environment for members to fellowship and celebrate their birthdays in a Godly fashion with other members of the Beloved Community and guests.
The Birthday Call Team, which is a part of CLC, recruit members to assist Membership Services in placing birthday calls to members of the Beloved Community and give out birthday bags to members celebrating his or her birthday.

This ministry is responsible for small organizational groups, called classes. Class Leaders call and listen to their members’ church- or faith-related questions and address their spiritual concerns before they become spiritual challenges.

Emerge: Young Adults Ministry
Emerge is the young adult ministry of Reid Temple and serves ages 18-40. Young Adults serve as stewards, trustees, greeters and are fully involved in the life of the church. Young Adults have various social, spiritual, and social justice activities throughout the year.

The Reid Temple Employment Assistance Ministry calls upon trained Human Resources professionals in the congregation to organize and coordinate an array of services for church members who are unemployed or underemployed.

Environmental Justice Ministry
In October 2022, the A.M.E. Church 2nd District (MD, NC, VA, and Washington, DC) launched the Environmental Justice (EJ) Ministry Initiative to promote environmental projects and advocacy, and to improve the quality of life for congregation members and their communities. Reid Temple’s EJ Ministry has volunteers who are committed to lead, educate, steward, and collaborate with faith, community, business, education, and government partners in accordance with our Four Pillars.Join -
First Aid Ministry
The First Aid Ministry consists of both male and female members of Reid Temple who are registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, nursing assistants, emergency medical technicians, and other health care professionals certified in First Aid and CPR.

Responsible for acquiring, placing, and maintaining the arrangements of lilies and other green plant decorations that adorn the church’s pulpit and sanctuary.

James A. Parker Lay Organization
The James A. Parker Lay Organization (JAPLO) of Reid Temple AME Church is commissioned to teach, train, and empower its members for lay ministry, global leadership and service following the principles of Jesus Christ. The AME Church organized the Connectional Lay Organization on Episcopal District levels down through the Conferences to the local units and churches to encourage the laity to support the total program of the church in the local congregation, in the community, and throughout the Connection. JAPLO provides vital leadership in the Washington Conference Lay Organization (WCLO) and the Second Episcopal District Lay Organization (SEDLO). Membership in this organization is open to all un-ordained members of Reid Temple AME Church.

Pray Until the Supernatural Happens (PUSH) Ministry is an intercessory prayer ministry whose members are called to a life of prayer and support of all persons in need of prayer. Our belief is that praying in faith will bring about changes as anticipated that will manifest in supernatural ways.
They are available to respond to individual and group prayer needs upon request, and they engage in continual intercession for the church, members, ministries, community, and world.
This ministry’s mission is to encourage the beloved community to continue to grow in the discipline of prayer and fasting with training and through outreach beyond the walls.

Our children's ministry strives to create an atmosphere where children from 5 years to 12 years can begin to develop a healthy relationship with God and others. We believe a relationship with Jesus Christ is an essential part of childhood development. This ministry is specially designed to meet the unique developmental and learning needs of children. We offer arts, crafts, drama, skits, music, and an engaging teaching time to help reinforce the biblical story or truth for the week. We also place a high priority upon children building relationships with one another and positive mentors and role models.

R3 Teens exists to introduce teens, grades 9th – 12th grade, to a saving belief in Jesus Christ and to then provide them with resources for spiritual growth where they will have the opportunity to develop a Godly lifestyle that will create mature relationships and promote service to both God and others. Through R3 Teens we prepare our teens to enter adulthood with a passion and love for God. Our leaders guide teens through age-appropriate material. Teens learn that God is real, that He loves them and that He has expressed that love through Jesus Christ. They learn how to live out the truths of the Bible in their Lives. We use the Bible to teach teens to honor God as well as their fellow human beings. Teens will find this to be a safe place where they can foster new friendships while growing closer to a God who loves them.

Members of the Usher Board welcome and seat the congregation during services, facilitate the offering process, and provide pleasant and timely guidance regarding the location of church facilities. The Board meets at the Glenn Dale campus on the 1st Saturday of the month from 9:00 - 12:00. Training is provided at this time.
