Youth Ministries

Boys to Men is a God-glorifying mentoring ministry that provides the young men and boys of Reid Temple with opportunities to benefit from the wisdom of older Christian men who have accomplished spiritual and material success and harmony in their lives. It pairs the younger males one-on-one with men of the church who can provide them with positive role models, guidance, and support for their transition to adulthood. Boys to Men workshops, outings, and other events are designed to strengthen these nurturing relationships and equip the youth with the essential life skills they will need to lead victorious Christian lives. Through this ministry, the men of Reid Temple can help their younger male counterparts to grow spiritually, develop a sense of belonging within the church, and fulfill their God-given potentials.

This ministry meets every 3rd Friday from 7:00pm to 9:00pm on the Reid Temple-Glenn Dale Campus.
Contact:  Bro. William Hodges, Ministry Leader, 301-352-0320, ext. 407.

Daughters of Faith (DOF) is a Christian mentoring ministry designed to touch lives by the spirit of Christ through partnership between faith-experienced women and young ladies (ages 9-18).
The DOF ministry incorporates the life-changing Christian principles taught by Pastor Lee P. Washington and a Leadership Team of faith-filled young women.  We listen to and respond to our young sisters with new service experiences, interesting outings, fellowship, and exciting workshop presentations.

The vision of the Teen Ministry is to see a teen focused ministry that will save, engage, disciple, transform and deliver teens by the gospel of Jesus Christ. Seeing Teens effected by and contributing to Evangelism, Empowerment, Education, Economics, and Expansion! We seek to transform the lives of teens with all types of backgrounds, problems, and walks of life. The No Limits Teen Ministry exist to inject the power of God into the lives of Teens in the church and our community to produce transformation. The No Limits Teen Ministry seeks to foster a real relationship for teens with Jesus; expose them to their purpose and destiny; unite them with other Christ like-minded teens; and create a burning desire to serve and give back.

This ministry provides academic enrichment and tutorial services to school-aged youth of Reid Temple and from the community. Additionally, the ministry offers classes in standardized test-taking skills and prepares students for the SAT and ACT college admissions examinations.

Volunteers must have a desire to work with children and youth as well as the patience and skills to tutor them successfully. A background in education and/or school administration is particularly helpful. Volunteers must complete the ministry’s training program before serving as a tutor.  Contact Sis. Donna Davidson, Ministry Leader, 301-352-0320, ext. 483

The C.D.-M.D.C. conducts a rites of passage program that introduces young people to the fundamentals of Christian society and celebrates their transition to adulthood. Its ministers coordinate a structured program of Bible-based workshops, fellowship, and recreational activities that culminates in a sacred dedication ceremony. C.D.-M.D.C. instruction focuses on building Christian character, social grace, and self-esteem, with the goal of empowering our young to become Christ-filled, confident, and productive adults.  Children and young adults who demonstrate Christian belief, active church involvement, regular church attendance, and a personal desire to participate are welcome to join the C.D.-M.D.C. as Junior Allenites (ages 9-12), Sub-Debutantes and Sub-Masters (ages 13-15), or Debutantes and Masters (ages 16-22). Young people accepted into the program must attend ALL sessions and complete ALL community service projects.

This ministry meets every 4th Tuesday at 7:00 pm on the Reid Temple-Glenn Dale Campus. Contact Sis. Daphne Gassett, Ministry Leader, 301-352-0320, ext. 411.

“Grow, Glow, and Go for Christ!”

This ministry offers opportunities for the children, youth and young adults of Reid Temple to become actively involved in missionary work. Under the supervision of the Queen Jefferson Women’s Missionary Society, Y.P.D.’ers of all ages participate in a wide range of community service and outreach activities, including visiting nursing homes, tutoring homeless youth, and serving as worship leaders. The Y.P.D. also sponsors a number of youth training programs focusing on A.M.E. church life and history, evangelism, Christian social relations, and leadership development.

This ministry meets every 2nd Thursday at 7:00pm on the Reid Temple-Glenn Dale Campus. Contact Sis. Emily Anderson, Y.P.D. Director, 301-352-0320, ext. 484.

The Youth Investment Club (Y.I.C.) is a joint project between Reid Temple and the Literacy Institute for Financial Enrichment, Inc. (L.I.F.E.). It aims to increase our young members’ knowledge of financial matters so that they can become responsible savers, smart investors, knowledgeable consumers, and better stewards of their God-given riches. The five-hour Y.I.C. program, offered twice yearly (Spring and Fall), focuses on showing youth how taking control of their finances can help them develop behaviors and attitudes that lead to financial independence and discipleship. Through lectures, discussions, and interactive group and individual assignments, Y.I.C. students learn basic money management principles and techniques, investment terms, the ins and outs of the stock and bond markets, and college funding essentials. They also learn how to avoid debt and manage credit. Culminating their Y.I.C. experience, students compete in a stock portfolio contest to test their new-found investment skills and leadership capacities.

Minor youth (ages 12 to 18) must complete and return a membership application signed by their parent or guardian to enroll in the Y.I.C. Enrollment is limited to 30 students per session. For information on upcoming Y.I.C. programs, contact Sis. Lanta Evans-Motte, Ministry Leader, 301-352-0320, ext. 429.
