“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:10)
Reid Temple’s Lay Ministry is named in honor of the late James A. Parker, a long-time member of Reid Temple who served for many years as President of the Washington (D.C.) Conference Lay Organization. It is a ministry dedicated to preserving and extending the history, traditions, principles, and discipline of the A.M.E. church and keeping forever alive the sacred memory of its founder, Richard Allen. Its members are charged with promoting the evangelistic, financial, and general well-being of African Methodism through education, service, and interaction at the local, conference, district, and connectional levels. They provide for the orderly and systematic training of laypersons within the church body, especially officers, so that the laity can perform their service assignments more effectively and convey God’s Word more appropriately.
