“Blessed are you, who help someone else, for you are also helping yourself.”
Reid Temple’s S.H.A.R.E. Ministry is a service of the Queen Jefferson Women’s Missionary Society. Through it, the church serves as a S.H.A.R.E. Ministry Host Site and part of a network of organizations and volunteers called S.H.A.R.E. D.C. [WEBMASTER: LINK TO http://www.sharedc.org] that serves the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Northern Virginia. The network functions like a food co-op, purchasing frozen meats, fish, and poultry as well as vegetables, fruits, and other staples in bulk at wholesale prices—often for less than half what you’d pay at the grocery store! S.H.A.R.E. D.C. Volunteers then divide the bulk orders into equal units, called packages, and transport the packages to the Host Sites for distribution to participating individuals and families.
Reid Temple S.H.A.R.E. is affordable, accessible, and convenient. Here’s how it works:
- REGISTER: S.H.A.R.E. is open to all—if you eat, you qualify! Simply register and pay $20 for each package of food you want. Cash, money orders, Master Card/Visa, and E.B.T. cards (food stamps) are accepted.
- VOLUNTEER: Give at least two hours a month to assist the Reid Temple S.H.A.R.E. Ministry or S.H.A.R.E. D.C. in packaging or delivering orders or providing other services.
- PICK UP: Take your food receipt and volunteer service receipt to the Reid Temple Host Site and pick up your groceries. Be sure to sign up for next month!
HOW TO PARTICIPATE/VOLUNTEER
Participants can sign up for S.H.A.R.E. distributions every 2nd Sunday after 7:30am and 9:45am services (or every 1st Sunday if a Monday holiday falls after the 2nd Sunday). S.H.A.R.E. food packages are distributed every 3rd and 4th Saturday from 8:30am to 9:30am. Sign-up and distribution activities take place on the Reid Temple-North Campus.
