New Members Orientation
New Members Orientation is a four-part learning experience for all new members to the Reid Temple family that is designed to ensure a smooth transition for new and transferring members. There are four standardized classes in the history, doctrine, and discipline of the AME church. Attendees are also instructed in the effective practice of Bible Study. In addition to learning about the doctrine and “reading-in” requirements of the AME Church, members gain essential information on the basic elements of Christian faith, and the effective practice of Bible study. You can take New Member Orientation classes either self-paced online by clicking below or once a month all four classes are offered on the 2nd Saturday of the month from 9:00AM to 12:30PM. Email info@reidtemple.org to sign up.
Membership to Discipleship
The goal of Membership to Discipleship moves the membership through a spiritual development program designed to challenge each member to self-assess their spiritual relationship with Christ and to grow from their current level with the goal of becoming a disciple. Reid Temple defines spiritual growth as the process of transitioning from membership to fellowship to stewardship to discipleship. These four stages are outlined in the Membership to Discipleship Program.
Discipleship Boot Camp
The signature Reid Temple Eight-Step Discipleship Development Program (Boot Camp) was developed and introduced by Rev. Dr. Lee P. Washington in 2004. This is a certificate program for personal self-assessment of spiritual growth as an effective Christian disciple and steward. The eight steps outline the process that starts when you join the church through New Members Orientation, Bible Study, the Andrew Plan, ministry involvement, evangelism, and ministry leadership. Each step has specific expectations and actions.
Through The Bible in One Year
This ministry offers weekly classes in two sessions: Old Testament Studies (spring) and New Testament Studies (fall). OT sessions introduce and foster a basic fundamental understanding of the Hebrew Books in the Bible. NT sessions introduce and foster a basic fundamental understanding of the life and teachings of Jesus and the earliest followers. In both sessions, emphasis is placed on the structure, history, themes, and main characters. In these sessions, participants will have the opportunity to become engaged learners, in the unfolding of the Bible as it is narrated in Scripture. The required workbook is “Through the Bible in One Year” by Dr. Alan B. Stringfellow. This ministry meets every Saturday at 10:00AM - 12:00PM.
